Vacancy Description

The Information, Advice and Support (IAS) Service for Windsor and Maidenhead is a statutory service providing free, confidential and impartial guidance and support to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents/carers.

We are looking to recruit an empathetic person, who is able to give high-quality, reliable and impartial advice on matters relating to SEND, tailored to the needs of each individual. Working mostly with parents, but also with children and young people with SEND, you will be committed to supporting and empowering individuals so that they are able to participate confidently in planning and in making important decisions relating to education, health and social care. You will play a key role in ensuring that the IAS Service provides a range of information, advice and support that is relevant and accessible to local families. You will also help plan and facilitate local support and training activities for parents and/or children and young people.

The role requires a commitment to working in partnership with education, health and social care providers, as well as local community and voluntary organisations, to promote and support the wider participation of children and young people with SEND and their parents/carers. You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to respond sensitively in a wide range of situations. You will also need to be highly organised, with good administrative skills, and must be able to work within a small team as well as on your own initiative, taking personal responsibility in all that you do.

Ideally, you will have relevant experience gained through supporting individuals and families, as well as a sound working knowledge of current SEND legislation and issues (although training will be provided).

The benefits of this role include:

  • Ongoing training and support
  • Flexible working
  • Staff benefits scheme/staff discounts

This post is offered on a permanent basis. It is a full-time position for 37 hours per week, school term-time only. (Applications for job share or part-time appointment may also be considered for the right candidate). Please indicate in the supporting information section of the application form whether you are applying for full-time or part-time.

For an informal discussion, please contact: Jean Hobson, Information, Advice and Support (IAS) Service Manager on 01628 796194.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.
